Throughlines at Surrey Christian School

How can kindergarteners be engaged in naming and noticing Throughlines? Though they are young, they are keen observers—they see the story all around them. In Emilly Bruin's class at Surrey Christian School, the students often call out classmates and guests for being servant workers, community builders, and earth keepers. This keen ability to name and notice was facilitated by the document panel in their classroom. The students analyzed pictures of themselves and their classmates and reflected on which Throughlines they saw in each photo, sorting them into categories. This simple activity strengthened their connections and made them bolder to joyfully tell others when they “catch them” living the story around the school.
