2026 Winter Masterclasses: January 13, 27; February 10, 24

Each Masterclass includes four 90-minute Zoom sessions

6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. CST

We are very excited to announce our first-ever offering of masterclasses during the school year! Like our summertime masterclasses, these virtual gatherings will be a rich opportunity to take a deep dive into TfT practices and to collaborate with other teachers across the network. Different from the summer masterclasses, these offerings will be more spread out, to allow time for Committing to Try between meetings.

Teachers will leave the Masterclasses with:

  • A professional network beyond their school with other TfT teaches
  • A deeper understanding of TfT's core and essential practices
  • A freshly designed plan for implementing TfT practices
  • A renewed enthusiasm for TfT living in their classrooms

Pricing per school:

  • 2+ teachers from the same school: $99 each
  • 1 teacher: $119

Registration deadline: February 6, 2026

TfT Masterclasses will be offered in the following specialty areas:

Throughlines | Jan. 13, 27; feb. 10, 24 (6pm CST)
Description: Discover the transformational power of Throughlines in this engaging Masterclass! Together, we’ll explore the TfT core practice of Throughlines and learn how to use Throughlines to design units from the ground up that empower learners in God’s Story. Throughout the course, you’ll work directly with a unit of your choice, applying each step of the learning design process along the way. By the end, you will have a practical framework and set of skills for designing with the Throughlines, and you’ll walk away with a fully developed unit that is seamlessly integrated with Throughlines. Along the journey, you’ll also see how Throughlines naturally connect with other key TfT practices, including Deep Hope, Learning Targets, Storyline, Storyboard, and FLEx. This Masterclass equips you with both the skills and the confidence to design learning for students to practice their part in God’s Story.
Facilitator: Matt Berka is an English teacher and instructional coach at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, Minnesota. These positions allow Matt to stay teaching in the disciplines that he loves and also working alongside colleagues to explore and implement effective pedagogical practices. Through his work within the Teaching for Transformation framework in the English classroom, Matt is interested in equipping his students to think deeply and critically about words and ideas. He believes that the traditional work of the English classroom—reading, writing, thinking, and speaking—are powerful tools to help students more clearly see and follow Jesus Christ and engage the world in which they live. Aside from teaching, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and good friends, listening to The Beatles, and playing a game or sport of nearly any kind.

storyboards | Jan. 13, 27; feb. 10, 24 (6pm CST)
Description: This Masterclass provides a deep exploration of storyboards as an essential TfT practice for deeper learning in God’s Story. You will gain practical skills and ideas for using storyboards to clarify learning targets, connect student work to Deep Hope and Storyline, and guide both you and your students through the unfolding learning journey. Across the sessions, you will work directly with a unit you are currently teaching, applying storyboard practices that refine and strengthen your learning design. You will also explore best practices for using learning targets and artifacts to make the unit’s learning journey visible and meaningful. By the end of the series, you will leave with a well-developed storyboard that integrates learning targets, artifacts, and reflection practices—a tool that fosters deeper reflection and helps your students take ownership of their learning.
