Primary Classroom: Grades k-2 | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Elizabeth Benscoter is a 1st grade teacher at Grace Community School in Tyler, Texas. TfT has invigorated and focused her teaching practices as she leads her students to be active participants in God’s Story. When she is not in the classroom, you can find Elizabeth enjoying a walk in the woods or sipping a cup of tea while she crochets or reads.
intermediate Classroom: Grades 3-5 | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Pamela Zuidhof teaches 3rd Grade and is the assistant principal at Surrey Christian School in British Columbia, Canada. Pam loves being a creation enjoyer by exploring God’s beautiful creation while biking, hiking, camping, and kayaking.
middle school Classroom: Grades 6-8 | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Tim Leugs is the Instructional Leader, TfT Lead, and Science/Algebra teacher at Legacy Christian School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. When he is not thinking about teaching and learning about being people of God’s Story, he enjoys woodworking, reading and summer camp, where he plays with campers, animals, and guitars.
6-12 social studies | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Peter Welle is a history teacher and professional development coordinator at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, Minnesota. In all his work with high school students, Peter tries to play the long game with his instruction, aiming at lifelong goals. As a drifter for a few years himself, he realizes that some seeds take time to sprout and bear fruit. His pedagogical practice has been invigorated by Teaching for Transformation: he has witnessed his students find deeper purpose for understanding history—as a means to activate kingdom life. When he's not teaching, Peter can usually be found at home with his family playing board games, strumming his guitar, or muttering under his breath about the Minnesota Vikings.
6-12 the sciences | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Thor Benson is the Dean of Faculty and science teacher at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, MN, where he loves engaging his storyline of "order, beauty and chaos" as faculty and students consider God’s work in creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. Thor is also a TfT school designer who has loved collaborating with schools in MN, IA, TX, and TN. When not talking about teaching and learning, Thor can be found coaching the high school lacrosse team, mountain biking, playing a lawn game, and spending time with his wife and three children.
6-12 english language arts | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Aimee Tawzer is the High School English teacher and Department Chair at Central Christian School in Redmond, Oregon. She enjoys curriculum design and believes in literature as a powerful tool for transformation. Teaching for Transformation has brought clarity and cohesion to the English secondary curriculum by offering a framework that unites biblical integration, essential questions, and content. Outside of the classroom you will find her spending time with her husband and two children, going to the gym, or curling up with a cup of coffee at her favorite bookstore.
k-12 visual and graphic arts | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Eddy Efaw is a native of West Virginia and has been teaching visual arts and Bible at Harding Academy in Memphis, Tennessee, for 25 years. He has taught students ranging from 7th-12th grades in his time at Harding, and for the past decade his primary focus has been teaching visual arts and ceramics to students in grades 9-12. Eddy has always taught from a Christian perspective by bringing biblical themes into his art classes and engaging his Bible students with concepts from his art background. Teaching for Transformation has focused his teaching in profound ways over the last 5 years, and Eddy looks forward to sharing his journey and learning alongside others through ongoing work in TfT.
k-12 transformational lesson design | July 11, 13, 18, 20 (11 A.M. CST)
Jessica DeWit is the Teaching for Transformation Director and Professional Development Coordinator at Sioux Falls Christian School, where her deepest hope is to empower others to live their part in God's story as part of a joyful TfT community. Before serving in her current role, Jessica taught choir, band, and other general music and fine arts classes for over 10 years. Outside of school she enjoys working on home projects and spending time with her husband Elliot and son Josiah.
Jamie Wernet serves as the Director of Learning and teaches secondary mathematics at Lansing Christian School. As a teacher, she loves how TfT offers a framework to help students see mathematics as a way to better understand their role in God's story and who He is. As a school leader, Jamie loves seeing teachers learn together as they commit to try new practices. Outside of school, Jamie's favorite thing is enjoying creation with her husband and five school-aged children.
